Make Love Not Waste
Rated 8 / 10

How green are you? Recycle? Donate to charity shops? Beeswax wraps? Solar panels? Car sharing? Grow your own veg? Knit your own yoghurt? All steps in the right direction but there's always more we can do to be kind to the planet, prevent waste and generally make ourselves feel that bit more virtuous. But what about your lingerie? I'd never really considered the impact of the naughty goodies I buy until I was made aware of JoJoe and their 100% recycled products. Yes, you read correctly, completely recycled undies (and not the kind you can buy 2nd hand on certain online auction sites!). Even the bag they come in is recycled and designed to be reused, how amazing is that?! In the current climate (pun intended) this is exactly the kind of innovative product that will catch my interest. The first thing that struck me about this body is the super soft feel. It is very thin but stretches well and fits like a second skin. Both the feel and design of this piece was vaguely reminiscent of the ballet leotards I used to wear as a youngster. Like wearing a very lightweight wetsuit, it allows you to move very well and doesn't pucker or pull at the seams. It's extremely light and delicate but also well made and robust. As a result of the delicate nature, this garment is handwash only. I normally ignore such warnings and just put things in a washbag on a cool machine cycle but I don't think I would risk this one. I can not say that I found this piece particularly sexy and, truth be told, I would class this as 'underwear' rather than 'lingerie'. The deep V, high cut hips and thong back are a little naughty and revealing but the overall look (probably due to the lack of lace or other embellishments) is one of utility over flirty indulgence. That's not to say it doesn't have any appeal at all. It feels quite sensual under a warm hand and if you or your playtime partner gets a kick out of the gymnast/athletic aesthetic, there's definitely fun to be had. Personally I wouldn't pull this out of my wardrobe to catch my husband's amorous attention but if I wanted something comfortable to wear under an outfit or just to lounge about the bedroom in, this would be near the top of the pile. Similarly, if you don't mind the lack of structured cups/underwiring, the top is definitely pretty enough to be flashed under a jacket or shirt. Size L is a 14 and I found the fit to be very comfortable. There is a LOT of stretch so I think this would easily fit anyone who might be pushing the bigger end of that size bracket. The aforementioned reusable bag is a nice touch, I'll probably store the body in it or re-purpose as a weekend bag toiletry holder. For £19.99 I think this is well priced, especially considering its environmental credentials. As a piece of comfortable, no-frills underwear that you certainly wouldn't mind being caught in if you got lucky, it's a perfect piece - particularly if you're trying to impress another eco warrior. If you're looking for a showstopping jaw-dropper, however, this probably isn't it but, as ever, it's horses for courses.
